WOMEN IN MUSIC: DO GENRES HAVE THEIR OWN STEREOTYPES?Why is it that women in music are required to be more than just their voice? In addition to being a singer, many female singers (regardless of their genre) also are pushed into being a "double threat" by being both physically appealing as well as audibly appealing. Take for example popular artists like Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, or Beyonce. They all have the record sales to show that they are talented musical acts, but also are among the leading women who appear on the front covers of magazines for fashion, weight loss, and exercise routines. In this website I aim to outline what about the music genre also reflects on to the artist, and how different genres create/reinforce different gender stereotypes on women. More importantly, I want to know why these gender stereotypes are tied to these specific genres.
